Bajjjodi: The annual sports meet of Infant Mary Parish was organized on Sunday, November 27th, 2016 at Padua School grounds.
First there was March past by the ward members. 10 ward members marched to the tune of the band. They were all dressed in colourful uniforms adding uniqueness and vibrancy to the ground. Then the stage programe began with prayer song by the youth. Parish Priest Fr. Shabas Crasta welcomed everyone. Fr. Walter D’souza, OCD, St.Joseph’s Monastry, Bikarnakatte, was the chief guest. First, Vice President Mr. Joseph Mascarenhas introduced the teams to the Chief Guest. Fr. Walter D’souza hoisted the flag and declared the sports meet open. He also inaugurated the fest by lighting of the sports torch which was taken around by 4 leaders. Athelets ran along with the sports torch which was brought to the grounds and handed over to the guest of honor.
Speaking after declaring the sports meet open, Fr. Walter D’souza said that Playing must not only be to win against the opponent, it must bring us together and bring out the unity and team spirit in us. Participation in games and sports makes the community active, which in turn, builds up unity he said.
Venezia Carlo administered the sports oath. Parish Priest Fr. Shabas Crasta, Asst. Priest, Fr. Ivan D’souza, Vice-President, Mr. Joseph Mascarenhas, Secretary, Mrs. Irene Pinto were present for the occasion. Fr. Ivan D’souza proposed the vote of thanks. Sachin, Deepak and Arjun were the judges for the March Past. Avin, P.ET and other youth members conducted the games. More than 15 games were held for all the age group. Everyone participated in the game with joy and enthusiasm.
Parish Social & Cultural Committee & ICYM members coordinated the sports event. The valedictory of the sport Fest was held at 5.00 pm. Fr. Shabas crasta lowered the flag and declared the sports meet-2016 closed. Later Fr. Shabas Crasta distributed the prizes for the winners of various events. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Fr. Ivan D’souza followed by the National Anthem.
