24, march 2016: The Pascal trideum which recalls the passion, death, burial and resurrection is began today and will continue all through 3 days. This Holy thursday is called as, Maundy thursday.
The word Maundy is derived from the Latin word for “command.” The “Maundy” in “Maundy Thursday” refers to the command Jesus gave to the disciples at the Last Supper, that they should love and serve one another. It is a good thing to remember the Last Supper and Jesus’ sacrifice on our behalf. It is a good thing to remember the Lord’s example of humility. Observing a special Lord's Supper service on Maundy Thursday/Holy Thursday in remembrance of the Last Supper gives greater significance. Doing a foot-washing in remembrance of how Christ humbled Himself and washed the feet of the disciples is a powerful reminder of how we are to live the Christian life (Philippians 2:1-11).
As being suggested by the Pope this year Women, sick and the elderly were also included among the 12 apostles in the foot washing ceremony. Rev.Fr. Shabas Crasta OCD was the main celebrant and Fr. Jocy preached on the theme - 'Do this in memory of me', where he highlighted the significance of remembering 'Gods gracious deeds' in the eucharist and breaking ourselves to build the One church.
