Nov 23, 2015: The OCDS family which is commonly known as ‘Secular Carmelites’ or ‘third order’ has found a sister family at Bajjodi. Under the able leadership of Fr Deep OCD the secular Carmelites of Carmel hill unit, after prayerful reflection and discernment has ventured to form a new family of secular Carmelites in Bajjodi parish.

The inauguration of the meeting was held at 6.30. Initially the new members were welcomed through spot games thus making all feel at home. Rev. Fr. Jocy D’ Souza by lighting the lamp expressed his joy in having a Carmelite family of lay people in the parish.

The Foundation of the Carmelite Tertiaries, which was also called ‘Third Order’, is attributed to Blessed John Soreth, the Superior General of the Carmelites in 1455. Today the Third or ‘Secular’ Order of Carmel has spread in many countries all over the world. The Secular Carmel has nearly 12,000 members worldwide and 800 being Indians.

Fr. Deep explained in nutshell about the OCDS family, its motto and mission. A few members of OCDS of carmel hill unit expressed their experience being a secular Carmelite.
